Faraway Martha's Vineyard
Pre-opening renderings for Workshop/APD's reimagining of the historic Kelley House as a boutique hotel in Edgartown.

The project
A 1742 Landmark, Reimagined.
The Kelley House had anchored its corner of Edgartown since 1742. When Blue Flag set out to reimagine the property as Faraway Martha's Vineyard, Workshop/APD led the master planning, architecture, and interior design, uniting the campus of historic buildings around a shared courtyard and layering eclectic, collected interiors over the property's New England bones.
Interiors like these live in their furnishings, and almost none of the pieces existed in any 3D library. NoTriangle had already modeled 17 custom furniture, lighting, and accessory pieces for the design team's early lobby studies, and the rendering package that followed carried the same discipline: every sofa, chandelier, rug, and shelf built from the design documentation, so what the client approved was the actual design and not a stand-in.
The garden bar
An Evening Before It Existed.
The outdoor bar was rendered at sunset, an upgrade delivered at no extra charge because the scene earned it: string lights and candles against the shingled pavilion, the kind of hour guests would actually book. Selling a hotel that is still a construction site means selling this feeling, and the render had to deliver it before a single table existed.
The work
Four Rooms, Rendered to the Last Detail.
The engagement began as a quote for guestroom and public-space views, and the scope shifted with the client's needs: guestrooms out, the outdoor pool in. The final package covered the reception, the double-height lobby lounge, the outdoor bar, and the pool courtyard, three interiors and an exterior, delivered in 4K over roughly eleven weeks from signature to final image.
The last details are where these images earned their keep. Feedback rounds went down to the level of a sculpture on a shelf, florals on a table, the brick of an existing chimney carried into the new design, and cedar fencing at the pool, with the pool view passing an extra review by the project's landscape designer before approval. It is the level of scrutiny a design-led hotel demands, and exactly what the renderings were for.
The outcome
Open, Acclaimed, and In Print.
Faraway Martha's Vineyard opened in May 2023 and today holds a Michelin Key. When Boston Magazine covered the opening, the image it ran of the two-story lobby was NoTriangle's rendering, credited "Courtesy NoTriangle Studio," the studio's work standing in for photography of a hotel the world had not yet seen inside.
The project joined a long line of collaborations with Workshop/APD, from AutoCamp's clubhouses to private residences and concept work, a relationship that has run across more than a dozen projects over many years.

- Why do hotel interiors need custom FF&E modeling?
- Because a designed hotel interior is full of pieces that do not exist in any 3D model library, custom sofas, chandeliers, rugs, and joinery that define the look. Each one has to be modeled and textured from the design documentation so the rendering shows the actual design intent, not a close-enough substitute. On Faraway Martha's Vineyard this custom modeling was a substantial share of the work.
