Bringing Harlem Towers to Life with 3D Architectural Visualization
Harlem Towers, Location: Harlem, NY
Harlem Towers is a bold mixed-use development in the heart of Harlem. The design features a public plaza connected to the 125th Street subway, a commercial plinth, and two residential towers. At the base, a multi-story glass block houses open-plan commercial and gallery spaces designed to connect with the community.
Created by Workshop APD, the design blends commercial and residential uses to break away from single-use blocks. The façade mixes translucent and opaque panels that reflect the diverse spaces within.
Project Description
Our client asked us to create powerful, authentic 3D architectural renderings to showcase Harlem Towers as a new landmark development.
The goal was to highlight not only the architecture, but also the connection between the plaza, subway entrance, and elevated community spaces. To tell the full story, we needed to recreate the historic Harlem neighborhood and the elevated subway line that defines the area.
Project Challenges
We approached APD with several creative and technical challenges that shaped our animation strategy:
Challenge 1: Contextual Accuracy
The renderings had to show Harlem Towers within the fabric of the city, while staying true to the historic neighborhood and elevated transit line.
Challenge 2: Balancing Scale and Community
The design is ambitious — two residential towers atop a large commercial base. The challenge was to capture the sense of scale without losing the intimacy of the plaza and community spaces.
Challenge 3: Complex Façade Design
Workshop APD’s façade alternates translucent and opaque panels. Our job was to make these details read clearly in renderings while still feeling cohesive at a larger scale.
Project Solutions
To bring Harlem Towers to life, we used advanced 3D architectural rendering techniques that balanced accuracy, storytelling, and community context.
Immersive 3D Context:
We rebuilt the Harlem streetscape, subway line, and surrounding architecture to ground the towers in their real environment.
Lighting and Material Strategy:
Careful use of daylight and texture made the translucent panels glow while keeping the opaque elements sharp and realistic.
Cinematic Framing:
Exterior angles focused on the plaza, subway connection, and public-facing spaces — showing how the building opens up to the community.
Project Results
The final package of 3D architectural renderings gave the client visuals that could be used for marketing, community engagement, and investor presentations.
By blending accuracy and storytelling, the images highlight Harlem Towers as both a landmark development and a project deeply connected to its neighborhood.
