Location: Dallas, TX
This development of a whole city block in downtown Dallas features multiple residential and office buildings, designed around an internal public courtyard, which includes double height commercial frontage at street level. Workshop APD’s concept was to split up the continuous facades of the traditional city block into separate interconnected outdoor spaces with sections cut away to form voids through which air could flow and green balcony spaces created.
The building forms were generated randomly and perforated by openings that make up the apartment balconies and large glazed walls behind metallic fins for the office spaces. The main aim of the renderings was to depict the overall composition of the complex and at the same time bring out the unique detailing of each facade at varying times of day with dramatic light settings.
